Hello, my name is Amanda Enright and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University at Albany, SUNY and my Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I have 15+ years of experience working with children and adults in the mental health field. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy frequently in my practice and also Solution Focused therapy. I believe in looking for strengths within my clients, and realize that at the beginning of this journey, most of them cannot see their strengths...that’s where I come in to help! My passion for helping people is what brought me to this field and I’d love the opportunity to help you overcome the obstacles that have gotten in your way. If you would like a FREE phone consultation to determine if I am the right therapist to help you, call me today.

I’d like to take the opportunity to explain why FeelEnright Counseling, LLC does not participate with any insurance companies at this time. Once you’ve read my reasons, if you have any further questions regarding this decision, feel free to contact me to discuss them.

First, let me start off by saying that I have insurance and I utilize my insurance when I can, so I understand why you’re questioning my decision to not participate with any insurance company when it comes to my business. Here are my reasons:
Reason #1- Are you aware that in order for me to make a claim against your insurance in order to be reimbursed for the work we do together, I am REQUIRED to give you a diagnosis? I have found that there are many clients who seek my services that do not require a diagnosis, or label, for their symptoms, but rather, just need some assistance in overcoming life obstacles. While I may assign a tentative diagnosis to you for purposes of understanding symptoms and or for treatment planning, I do not believe you NEED a diagnosis. However, if you insist on utilizing your insurance, I will be required to provide you with one.

Reason #2 (which is closely tied with Reason #1)- Are you aware that once I’ve given you that diagnosis, it stays in your permanent medical record? This record can be accessed when you are applying for life insurance, switching health insurance companies, and for security clearance purposes? And for some, that diagnosis, or label, can potentially limit you in your future. While this may not seem like an issue for you at this time, it is something that I think you should be aware of and think about how it could potentially effect you in the future.

Reason #3- The person from your insurance company who reviews my claims, typically does not have a mental health background and base my ability to continue to see you and or to get reimbursed for work we’ve already done on that required diagnosis from reason 1. These individuals look at the diagnostic code and make a decision about the number of sessions I can be reimbursed for and this can limit our options for different treatment modalities.

Reason #4- If you decide to utilize your insurance, you will be limited in the therapists you can choose from to work with. I truly believe (and this belief is backed up by lots of research) that the relationship between me, as the therapist, and you, the client, is a huge part in what helps you create the change you’re looking to make. If you have to choose a therapist because they are a provider with your insurance company rather than based on the compatibility between you and that therapist, your treatment may suffer.

Reason #5- By submitting claims to your insurance company, it is possible that several other people will see your personal information. Your privacy and confidentiality are important to me and therefore, I feel you should be aware that in order to submit claims, I have to share some of your personal information, which may include some of the personal reasons you came to see me.

Reason #6- In order to be reimbursed by your insurance company for the work we do together, I am required to submit forms and there are often glitches that mean more of my time is required on paperwork. The extra time it will take me to “work” with your insurance company means I have less time to do actual work with you.  I got in to this profession to help people, not negotiate with insurance companies who do not necessarily have your best interests at heart.

If you’ve read my reasons for not choosing to participate with insurance and would like a FREE phone consultation, please call me. If, instead, you’ve read my reasons and have questions about them, feel free to reach out to me.
